Select Board · Meeting of September 24, 2026

PEABODY — The Peabody City Council voted 6-5 to advertise a new snow removal ordinance requiring residents and businesses to clear sidewalks citywide. Ward 3 Councilor Peach, who said she had sought the change for five years, won approval after the Legal Affairs Subcommittee backed the measure 4-1 with an amendment extending the clearing window from four to five hours. The ordinance sets fines of $50 for a first offense and $100 for each subsequent violation, enforced by the director of public services, code inspectors and police.

Councilor Turco voted no, saying "I don't think it's enforceable." Councilors Manning-Martin, Corvo, Higgins and Hockman also opposed it. Separately, the council voted 10-0 against selling city-owned land on Pulaski Street and approved a Peabody Municipal Light Plant utility pole petition 10-0. A Lake Street rezoning dispute was continued to October 22.
