Peabody's first FY27 school budget draft rose 5.99 percent. Superintendent Dr. Vidala presented a level-service draft of $104,979,890, about $6 million above the $99,050,552 voted for FY26, with utilities up about 11 percent. Health insurance, transportation and out-of-district tuition were named as budget drivers.
The governor's budget and the Chapter 70 summary were still pending. Principal Brooke Randall said "change is not an event, it's a process" as she outlined the high school's push to meet MassCore standards, which 75 percent of last year's graduates met. Mr. Amico moved to start weighting elective courses toward GPA, with the plan to be built into a later program of studies.
The committee held the SNAP fundraising item to Feb. 10, when Treasurer Ross Teitelbaum is expected to attend, after hearing a 20 percent fee.
