Peabody Students Return To Class Sept. 2 As New Year Begins

PEABODY — Peabody Public Schools students head back to class Wednesday, Sept. 2, opening the 2026-2027 school year after a summer that included a fresh round of kindergarten registration and, in the days just before, Massachusetts' Sept. 1 state primary.

Peabody Public Schools staff report Monday, Aug. 31, for a professional development day with no students in class. Kindergarten screening takes place Wednesday, Sept. 2, the same day grades 1 through 12 begin classes across the district's 10 schools, from Brown, Burke, Carroll, Center, McCarthy, South, Welch and West elementary schools to Higgins Middle School and Veterans Memorial High School.

The district's 2026-2027 kindergarten registration has remained open through the summer. In a message to families as the prior school year ended, the district called it "productive and rewarding" and thanked the community for its support.
